Music |
|||||
Music is one of those gifts in life that almost absolutely everyone can relate to. There is something about sound organized by rhythm and pitch that strikes a cord with everyone. Music can make you happy, or sad, and can get at something deep with in one's being. Another great thing about music is the variety it comes in. Genres, styles, age periods. . . . . there are so many ways to enjoy music. We love almost any type of music but a few of the ones you most often catch us listening to are Classical, Gospel, Modern Rock, and Pop (we include Japanese-Pop in this category). To see a list of what we have in our music collection click here. In addition to listening to music we both play the violin. Both of started young (although one of us seemed to make more progress than the other. Can you guess??) and still play quite a bit today. Playing violin has provided us with a chance to have many experiences that we have learned from. You could also say in no small way that the violin facilitated our getting to know each other as we met while playing violin in the Calvin College Orchestra. If you click here to listen, or right click to save, you can hear us playing the Bach Double duet. (MP3 file - 600 kb). While in Japan, we played music with some friends in a small group and had performances once in a while. Also some times friends and aquaintances asked us the two of us to do gigs together. You can read about one of those here. And last but not least, Sarah teaches 3 elementary school students violin.
