Our New Place - November 10, 2003

After three months of temporary living in Grand Rapids it was very nice to move into our own place. It has been a year and four months since we left the last place we lived wth just the two of us.

On November 1st we loaded up all our possessions that Mom and Dad Rinsema graciously stored for us while we were in Japan and drove down from Chicago to Muskegon. Most of the stuff we hadn't laid eyes on since opening at our wedding in 1998. It is sure coming in handy now.

We moved into the Amazon Apartments. It is really a fun place to live. The building was built in the late 1890s and served as knitting mill until about 40 years ago. Since then it has mostly stood vacant, until three years ago when a developer decided to turn it into an apartment buiding. They kept the old stone walls and the huge beam structures, but modernized almost everything else. The results are spacious apartments with historical charm and lots of conveniences. We are loving it. The only drawback is a little more dust than usual as the dust that collected over the years of vacancy is still settling after the interruption of three years of construction. Dan took care of that with the new vacuum we got over the weekend though.

The building is located in a Renaissance zone in downtown Muskegon right on the water. The Shoreline Trail bike path and lots of interesting shops and cultural centers are right near the building.

We are looking forward to living here and getting to know the community.
