After crossing to Java we started
on our way to the town of Jangkyar where we were planning to catch a 1:30
p.m. ferry. We had gotten an early start and arrived in town with plenty
of time to spare. So we took a liesurely lunch and then sauntered on to
the ferry port. We thought there wasn't much traffic on the road to the
ferry but didn't think much of it until we arrived at the port and 5 ferry
officials (with obviously not a lot work to do) surrounded and informed
us that the ferry schedule had been changed and we had already missed
the daily crossing.
What a bummer!! We asked where the nearest hotel was and they said 10
kms down the road. We took a nap in the terminal before starting out again
and then much to our chagrin we realized the ferry guys had been way to
optomistic on the distance to the next town. We almost fell off our bikes
after biking 8 kms and then seeing a sign saying 22 kms to Situbondo.
We eventually got over the shock however and did make it. It is just so
tiring to have go further than you were expecting. Our tiredness got a
lot better after a cold shower and some great street food in Situbondo.
We were ready to back track the kms and head off to Madura. |
