Back to Hanoi - October 16 - 17

Between side trips we spent a busy day running around Hanoi. There were lots of detail to take care of regarding our trip to Northwest Vietnam. Besides taking care of those we took the time to do a little cycling tour of the city.

While the traffic first seems impossible after getting out there and mixing it up with the Vietnamese you find it really isn't all that bad. The hardest thing to get used to has to be the noise. The Hanoiese are obnoxious in their use their horns. Every situation imaginable provides a good excuse to give the horn a good blow as far as we can tell.

But between blasts of the horn we found lakes with people fishing and eating ice cream, and tree lined streets where the pace seems to take it down a notch or two.

You have to wonder: Can you eat the fish you catch from this pond in the middle of a city of 7 million??

While very little strikes one as Communist in Vietnam there are occasional reminders.
