One Last Day in Yogyakarta - August 21

We spent one more morning in Yogyakarta on Wednesday, August 21 before leaving for Jakarta. It wasn't all that memorable except for a few things. For the first time after 3 days we cycled to our destination and back withought losing our way once. Quite a feat after a few wild goose chases in the previous days.

The last highlight was the bird market. Dan, who has a multitude of childhood bird memories, just loved it. Deb, who Sarah and Dan had to persuade to take animal pictures while in Europe together, even came around and was snapping merrily.

Quite a sight. In the middle of the city a large number of blocks devoted entirely to birds, their cages, and the food they consume (including the baskets of swarming maggots!!).

Having seen it all and having thoroughly enjoyed the sights and culture of Yogyakarta we were ready to move on to the big durian (a big smelly tropical fruit some just can't resist) of Indonesia, the capital, Jakarta.
